Attitude

Attitude is so important...why is it that it is so hard to keep it under control?

Every time something happens to me that is not ideal, I want to open my big mouth and let the world know what is up...how I've been wronged...how unfair life seems at times...why things should be different.

If I do not say it out loud, it is still in my head which is bad too.
Oman Oman.

"Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus..." Philippians 2:3
The next several verses talks about the attitude that Christ had. He was GOD, yet he humbled himself and died for all of us...a bunch of sinners! Christ's attitude was not about himself, it was about others, and doing the will of the Father.

I think we all have a lot of work to do; but that is part of the point. How awesome is it that God is perfect...Christ was and is perfect in every way meaning we will never live up to what we are called. It makes God so much more powerful and awesome to know that we cannot explain Him or ever be just like Him. God is God, and we are not.

We are called to imitate Him, though, so we must humble ourselves and live our lives in a way that is pleasing and glorifying to Him...ALWAYS...no matter how hard it may be sometimes :)

Judgement House

Judgement House starts Saturday night and this event really needs your prayer. There are so many dedicated people involved in this-It blows my mind to see all that these people are doing. They have given up enormous amounts of time out of their busy lives to help bring this together. (I am a bad participant...they asked Dawn and I to help out a very long time ago and we didn't contact anyone until this week! Ah.)

When Porter first started talking about doing this, I was a little unsure about it. I had a pretty bad attititude towards the whole thing, but they asked me to be involved, so of course I said I would. I have heard so much this week about what God is doing to help make this possible...just different things : needs that have been met when it seemed impossible, timing, money, participation from the church body...it really sounds like this is something God is going to greatly bless.

Pray for the people involved, pray for the technical stuff, pray for the people who will be going through and hearing the gospel message. I am very excited to see how God uses Judgement House.

Raspberry Pie

Question: What is a food that is deliciously sweet, yet intriguingly tangy at the same time?

A food that, at the mention of its very name, has the ability to make your mouth water like a bulldog on crack?

A food that can be scooped up with a spoon right out of the fridge, or warmed in the microwave and topped with a giant scoop of vanilla ice cream?

A food so irresistible a girl could (and might) eat it in its entirety in one 8-hour period of time?

Answer: Raspberry Pie

The Tongue

I know we hear (all the time) about controlling our tongues and watching the words that leave our mouths. Our Mommies and Daddies have told us since we began to speak, "Don't say everything that you think. Only say the things that are kind; do not say mean things, things that hurt other people's feeling should not come out of your mouth. The words you allow to come out of your mouth are like the toothpaste as it is squeezed out of the tube. Once it comes out, you cannot put it back inside so be careful."

I know MY parents sure did. [My dad even had my brother and I do a little activity: we both had a tube of toothpaste and we squeezed all of the paste out. Then my he told us to try to put it back inside.] He was trying to make a point, a point he still tries to get across today with his 'be a battery charger, not a battery drainer' speech we have all hearf time and agian.

Our words are powerful. We can use them to bring others down, or we can use them to build others up. Our words will bring glory to God, or cause others to stumble. James 3:10 "Out of the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things should not be this way."

Recently, I read Ephesians 4:29 "No rotten talk should come from your mouth, but only what is good for the building up of someone in need, in order to give grace to those who hear."

I have read this many times, but it just hit me that there is so much more to this verse than simply trying not to gossip that much, or making sure curse words do not slip out. This verse is telling us that we should say NOTHING that is not encouraging to someone. Every word that leaves my lips should be a means of encouragement and blessing to my brothers and sisters in Christ. So maybe I don't curse, and I try to keep the gossip to a minimal; but that is not enough...Is every word that I speak meant to uplift the one I am talking to---or am I trying to make myself look good? or make sure everyone knows how nice I am? Do I want to speak so others will think well of me?

There is a common theme there. Me, I, Me, Me, Me, Sarah this and Sarah that. Well, you know what? This life is not about making me happy or making me look good. It is about making God look good.

Our tongues are a huge part of our character. What comes out of our mouths is a good indication of what is truly in our hearts. So let's make sure we lift others up and bring grace to their ears. It's a huge challenge, but it is necessary. We must be obedient.
