I walked in about five minutes late so I did not catch the first part of the first presentation, so I was not quite sure what it was about. A man was a the front of the room talking about an opportunity for Nursing students to have their schooling completely paid for, to travel around the country, and alot of other things that I have forgotten about now, but that really appealed to me at the time. Eventually I realized that he was talking about the ROTC. My mind immediatly went from. "Wow! That sounds amazing" to "Oh my goodness! You can't be in the army!!" haha He spoke for a really long time though, and the more he talked, the more I wanted to do it!!

I was all hyped up about it until he started talking about how a requirment for this program was an early morning routine involving lots and lots of running, push ups, and all this athletic-y stuff I have never been any good at. The truth is that I HATE to run and I really couldn't handle that every morning. The reality of my dream of being a nurse in the military left immediatly.

I watched Pearl Harbor a few nights ago with Dawn and some girls from our dorm, and once again the desire to be a nurse in the military returned. I don't know what exactly is so appealing to me...Maybe it is the intensity and the excitement. I would be in the middle of all the action and the things that I would be doing would really matter. I loved watching the nurses in the movie take charge, spring into action when there was an emergency, run around the hospital in a frantic scene trying to find supplies, and sticking their fingers in a man's artery in order to save his life! It is so so exciting!!

In spite of my desire for it, the simple fact remains that I cannot run, so I won't be going to the Middle East to stick my finger in anyone's artery. But I definately want to work somewhere where there is excitement and surprise...somewhere that causes my adrenaline to rush! I am thinking about the Emergency Room in a hospital, or maybe helecopter stuff. They have special training for nurses who are in helecopters in really serious situation.

Hmmmm... Can't wait :)

I have time for 3 sentences.

Dawn and I are having Spiderman Mac and Cheese for dinner tonight and we are pretty excited about it.

Our ceiling in our dorm room is leaking and it looks like the liquid that comes out of a colostomy bag.

Valentine's Day is coming up, anybody need a date?

***Dawn and Sarah***

Work and School

Work------
Things are getting much easier now that I am getting used to the way things run at a hospital.
Well, that is only a partial truth because the actual requirements of the job are sometimes, or most of the time, pretty intense...changing depends on patients who do not respond well to my request for them to roll onto their side (making the job of changing the depends incredibly difficult), cleaning up massive amounts of blood after a patient yanks his catheter out (ouch!!!), taking patients who are literally insane outside to smoke (lots of smoke-yuck-but lots of laughs because crazy people are hilarious!), and constantly running all over the floor fetching things for patients, family members, nurses, or other techs on top of my other duties such as taking vital signs and checking blood glucose levels...
It's alot of work and I definitely feel like I have earned my paycheck at the end of each very long day, but I really like what I am doing. Of course, when it comes time for me to go in to work, I don't jump for joy and squeal like a 7-yr-old birthday girl as she unwraps a bight pink package with a huge polka dot ribbon on top, but I like it. No one WANTS to go to work (at least not most people, maybe Bethany Gilpin but she is just weird :) jk) but once I get there I feel so useful. I love helping people and being there when they need me. It feels good; and that part totally makes it worth all the other stuff!! Haha

School--------
I am taking 5 classes again this semester. Anatomy, Chemistry, English, Spanish, and History. Anatomy will be basically the same as last semester: same teacher, same expectations.
Chemistry will be different this time around. Organic Chemistry has alot less math, which is good, but the homework is set up different. My teacher seems good though.
English will be English. Writing and reading...
Spanish will be the same as last semester; it should be pretty easy.
And History---Dawn and I are in the same class so that will be fun, but there is going to be lots of reading!!! Ahhh I hope it is interesting because I am not the biggest reader out there. I like to write though and the class has a pretty good decent amount of writing, too, so maybe it will be okay :) Hagan had the same teacher that we do (Ireland) and he said he is great, so I hope so.

It should be a busy semester, but hey, hard work produces a good work ethic and strong character.

Helpful Tips for the Day

#1 Always write everything down because your memory is not dependable. Nah. I have worked at the hospital almost everyday this week. The statement above IS true, but that is not all I've been doing. I'm not all on my own just yet; I'm still being trained. It's pretty hectic up there...lot's to do, but that's ok. I'm having a blast watching people, both patients and other people working at the hospital. I laugh sooo much because people are stinkin hilarious, and most of the time without even knowing it.

I have had alot of patients this week. Some of them were young, some of them were old, some were sweet, some were mean, and some were crazy!! We had a guy come in the other day who was about 5 ft tall, 90 lbs, and crazy as he could be. He has overdosed on crack like three times and it has messed with his brain. He was nuts, and he kept "having accidents" on the floor and in his bed. Every time we cleaned him up, he'd have another accident! And when the guy I was working with left the room, he kept trying to get me to bring him some crack. I finally looked at him and said, "You want me to bring you drugs? I don't even know what it looks like! I'm not bringing you drugs." He kept saying, "Come on...Come on...you you you bring me some? You know...You know what it is...Come on...you you bring the stuff?" It was hilarious.

Not all of the patients have been nuts though. Some of them are so sweet; those are the ones you enjoy helping and you really want to help make them as comfortable as possible.

It's been very busy, very interesting, but very good.
I'm learning alot and I can't wait until I really get the hang of things and feel very comfortable in what I am doing. I'll really like it then!!

Oh yea, and the cheeseburgers in the cafeteria at UK are gross, so if you ever eat in there, get something else.

Merry Christmas

MeRrY ChRiStMaS
MeRrY ChRiStMaS

Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ

At the first Winter Fuel Group for Ignite, Jonathon handed out copies of John Piper's "Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ." This book is amazing! I love it! It is not very often that I enjoy reading, but this book is definitely one that I enjoy. In the very start of the book, John Piper writes 'A Word to the Reader' explaining his purpose for writing. There are two kinds of seeing. The first is physical sight, and the second is spiritual sight. When we see Christ with our spiritual eyes, we see the truth, beauty, and value of Christ. 'Savoring' is the response to truly seeing Christ for who He is. "When you see something as true and beautiful and valuable, you savor it...treasure it...cherish, admire, and prize it." When we truly see Jesus and all that He is, we will savor Him...cherish Him...and treasure Him above all other things.
That was just the introduction!!! Each chapter describes a different aspect of Jesus Christ. I have only read through chapter three.
Chapter One: Seeing and Savoring the Glory of God. The Ultimate Aim of Jesus Christ.
This chapter reminds us that the universe was created to show the glory of its maker; we were created to bring glory to God. Every tree, every flower, every mountain, each little bird and each human being was created to point back to the awesome wonder of God, the Creator. Our lives have a purpose: to glorify our great God. One quote from this chapter left a lasting impression on me because it is such a "duh" statement, yet it is something I have yet to get through my thick skull. "Indeed, what could be more ludicrous in a vast and glorious universe like this than a human being, on the speck called earth, standing in front of a mirror trying to find significance in his own self-image."
How many times a day do I think about my life, my problems, my hopes, my desires, my dreams, my future, my self, and try to make it so that I feel good. I think that if I make myself happy, if I meet my "needs" and fulfill my desires, that somehow my life will be good. How ludicrous! Why do our minds think this way? We have access to the almighty God, yet we still think about ourselves so much. It blows my mind!

I have a bunch of notes written out about the next two chapters, too, but I don't want to make this post unending. I definitely love the book, though. I am learning so much about the character of Jesus Christ, and being reminded of simple truths that I have learned about since I was a little girl. Jesus Christ is worthy of all praise and glory. Jesus is fully God; God the Father and God the Son are one. Also, chapter three describes the excellence of Christ. How awesome He is. He is a Holy and just God, full of righteousness and blameless perfection. He is just and fair...I think of our sin, my sin, and the rightful punishment. God is Holy and just and my sin cannot go unpunished. At the very same time, God is merciful and loving, full of compassion and forgiveness through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. These complete opposites meld together and form the very essence of our God! Jonathan Edwards describes it as the "Admirable Conjunction of Divine Excellencies." I want to see Christ and savor Him, cherish Him, and treasure Him above all else.

This is definitely a great book to read!

Color Blind? Oh man...

This week, I started my orientation for my new job at UK Hospital. Overall, it has not been very exciting...alot of lectures...alot of information...I'm trying not to fall asleep :) Although the orientation may be boring, I do love the chance to get dressed up everyday! (Of course I am going to love wearing scrubs, too, once I get started for real!!! Ahhh I can't wait!)

Today, I had to take a test to make sure I am not color blind. I wasn't nervous about that at all. Are you kidding me? I can see colors just fine, or I thought I could at least! I went into the room, I looked at all those little pictures with all those little colored dots, I went through and told the lady the numbers or patterns I saw. She looked at me, looked at the little pictures and the little dots, and told me to come back at the end of the day and let the other lady test me also. Of course I was nervous. When I got called into the testing room for the second time, everyone else looked just as nervous as I did! It was hilarious. I walked in, went through the stupid little pictures with their stupid little colored dots (a little more slowly this time), and then this second lady looked at me. She had me trace some with my finger-I was even having trouble with that!! Hahaha they passed me, but they thought I was border-line color blind. I came out of the testing room and all of my co-workers (ahhhh that sounds so funny!) looked at me with wide eyes and asked, "How did you do?" It was funny.

Now that I am reading this story, it is nowhere near as funny as I thought it was, but hey! That is okay...it's all I've got :) All the other things that have happened to me this week are WAY more boring, believe me!

Wish I had something more interesting...wait until after Saturday, and I am sure I will have some stories.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://bailey-babes.blogspot.com/2007/12/color-blind-oh-man.html' title='Color Blind? I am really excited about that. These past few weeks have been insanely crazy for me, not only because of schoolwork and finals, but also because of alot of other things going on in my life. It is so easy to be overwhelmed and to get stressed over the small things -although they may seem so big at the time :)

On Wednesday nights, we have been going through a book on how to have a Powerful Prayer Life. At first I didn't really pay very much attention to it, but as we dove deeper into the study and I began to read some of the book, I realized how pitiful my prayer life was. Growing up, I always thought that reading my Bible and closing my eyes for about 4 or 5 minutes was enough...but I was so wrong!!! Over the past several weeks I've been trying to spend more significant time in prayer. It is amazing to see the difference. Our prayer lives will continue to grow throughout our entire lives; that is amazing to me. It is such a blessing and a privilege to talk to God. Think about that...He is the creator of the universe, the sustainer of all life. He is mighty and just, but also merciful and full of compassion for us. God is amazing, and so very worthy of our praise! How awesome it is to spend time each day praising God for who He is!

Dawn and I talked with an old friend the other day who does not believe in God. She is convinced that, because she is a good person, she will not go to Hell; and if there is a God, He wouldn't send someone like her to Hell. I asked her, "What if you are wrong?" Her response was that she didn't care, and that God was arrogant. She could not understand that God is WORTHY of all praise...He is worthy of all of our praise and way more!!

Anyways, what I was trying to get to is that spending time in prayer helps us to develop a peace. I am learning to trust in Christ and not to worry about things. Psalm 127 and 128 are so cool; they are talking about the blessings of God. He is completely in control of all, he has a plan, and all that happens will ultimately be for His glory.

Psalm 16:5 "Lord, You are my portion, and my cup of blessing; You hold my future."

I learn to trust in Christ when I spend time talking to my Heavenly Father and enjoying this awesome blessing of communication with the Almighty God!

A Question

We wanted to put this question on here, too, but it didn't fit into our last post.

"Why do people take the sticker off the banana peel? He is so good to us, and we have done nothing to deserve it! By grace, the God of the universe, the Creator and Sustainer of all, allows us to come into His presence. He allows us to speak His Holy name. He allows us to talk to Him. He allows us to talk about Him. He is so forgiving and so merciful to us.
I think we sometimes forget how awesome God is!! -and how very undeserving we are of His many, many blessings.
So this Thanksgiving, eat alot of turkey, spend time with the ones you love, and most importantly, remember to thank our Heavenly Father for His many blessings!

*Happy Thanksgiving!

TV in the Student Center

I would have to say that one of my favorite parts of today was right after lunch. Dawn and I chose the Student Center cafeteria for lunch today (soup in a bread bowl...mmmm very tasty). After lunch, we sat in that side room with the big TV. Some weird "Cop" show was on...not something we normally watch, but it was so fun! The lights were turned down...it was the perfect temperature...we had our feet up...and we were having a blast! It was great because the two other people in the room didn't seem to mind that we were talking during the whole show. (We tend to do that---me especially---but hey, it was all related to the show so it was ok haha.)

I think I miss that the most about living at home. O man this sounds bad, don't tell my parents...I miss just sitting around with the family or whoever happens to be at the house that day, and watching TV. He was GOD, yet he humbled himself and died for all of us...a bunch of sinners! Christ's attitude was not about himself, it was about others, and doing the will of the Father.

I think we all have a lot of work to do; but that is part of the point. How awesome is it that God is perfect...Christ was and is perfect in every way meaning we will never live up to what we are called. It makes God so much more powerful and awesome to know that we cannot explain Him or ever be just like Him. God is God, and we are not.

We are called to imitate Him, though, so we must humble ourselves and live our lives in a way that is pleasing and glorifying to Him...ALWAYS...no matter how hard it may be sometimes :)

Judgement House

Judgement House starts Saturday night and this event really needs your prayer. There are so many dedicated people involved in this-It blows my mind to see all that these people are doing. They have given up enormous amounts of time out of their busy lives to help bring this together. (I am a bad participant...they asked Dawn and I to help out a very long time ago and we didn't contact anyone until this week! Ah.)

When Porter first started talking about doing this, I was a little unsure about it. I had a pretty bad attititude towards the whole thing, but they asked me to be involved, so of course I said I would. I have heard so much this week about what God is doing to help make this possible...just different things : needs that have been met when it seemed impossible, timing, money, participation from the church body...it really sounds like this is something God is going to greatly bless.

Pray for the people involved, pray for the technical stuff, pray for the people who will be going through and hearing the gospel message. Our Mommies and Daddies have told us since we began to speak, "Don't say everything that you think. Only say the things that are kind; do not say mean things, things that hurt other people's feeling should not come out of your mouth. The words you allow to come out of your mouth are like the toothpaste as it is squeezed out of the tube. Once it comes out, you cannot put it back inside so be careful."

I know MY parents sure did. [My dad even had my brother and I do a little activity: we both had a tube of toothpaste and we squeezed all of the paste out. Then my he told us to try to put it back inside.] He was trying to make a point, a point he still tries to get across today with his 'be a battery charger, not a battery drainer' speech we have all hearf time and agian.

Our words are powerful. We can use them to bring others down, or we can use them to build others up. Our words will bring glory to God, or cause others to stumble. James 3:10 "Out of the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things should not be this way."

Recently, I read Ephesians 4:29 "No rotten talk should come from your mouth, but only what is good for the building up of someone in need, in order to give grace to those who hear."

I have read this many times, but it just hit me that there is so much more to this verse than simply trying not to gossip that much, or making sure curse words do not slip out. This verse is telling us that we should say NOTHING that is not encouraging to someone. Every word that leaves my lips should be a means of encouragement and blessing to my brothers and sisters in Christ. So maybe I don't curse, and I try to keep the gossip to a minimal; but that is not enough...Is every word that I speak meant to uplift the one I am talking to---or am I trying to make myself look good? or make sure everyone knows how nice I am? Do I want to speak so others will think well of me?

There is a common theme there. Me, I, Me, Me, Me, Sarah this and Sarah that. Well, you know what? This life is not about making me happy or making me look good. It is about making God look good.

Our tongues are a huge part of our character. What comes out of our mouths is a good indication of what is truly in our hearts. So let's make sure we lift others up and bring grace to their ears. It's a huge challenge, but it is necessary. We must be obedient.

An eye-opener

Romans 13 talks about how we are to obey our authorities and to abide by the law...I always use this scripture when I am talking about how speeding is just as wrong as telling a lie. This is no surprise to me; I am very familiar with it.
Tonight, however, something new has been brought to my attention (thanks to two of the brainiest people I've ever known...each of them got a 32 on the ACT, on the first try, without studying! wow) Anyways, apparently "Jaywalking" is against the law, too! Oh dear...
So now, in order to make maintain the validity of my 'speeding' case, I think I am going to have to stop jaywalking.
I have made the decision. What the heck!

4. Every building I enter, every class I sit through, every time I go anywhere, I freeze to death! (Especially in my dorm room)

5. Mostly, I would have to say that I hate this horrible epidemic with which we are faced: the complete and utter waste of cuteness on guys who are shorter than me. I am not an outrageously tall girl...slightly above average, maybe, but completely normal...therefore all guys (more importantly the attractive ones) should be taller than me.

That's all I have to say about that.

THINGS THAT IRRITATE SARAH
1. Sinks that smell like raw fish...don't even get me started on my phobia of raw foods. wow.

2. The freaking temperature of this entire campus! Everywhere I go, I am burning alive. It is so weird because usually I am always freezing.......it is especially hot in my dorm room. Yikes!

3. People who do not like Cinderella...I'll stop there. Don't mess with my girl, now.

4.Being in the (for me, very rare) "get up and dance like an idiot" kind of mood, but my roommate, who is the ultimate dancing machine (yea that's right boys) decides to, for the time, have the personality of a wet mop...so I have to dance all alone. Sad, I know.

5. Having to run from UK hospital to Whitehall Classroom Building in under ten minutes in this 90 degree weather, in order to make it to class on time.

6. Okay, so this one I get pretty hyped up about: I have an R3 parking pass. Yes, that is very nice....So I have this pass which means that I should always have a parking spot, am I right? Nope. On Game Days it is like there IS no law. The stupid Louisville fans with their trailers and corn hole things and tables of food and coolers of beer.....Grrrrr. Not only were their cars taking up MY parking spots, their dumb tables, cornhole stuff, and coolers of beer had their very own parking spot! ah. It is nuts.

All done now

It is 12:49 pm on Friday, May 18, 2007.

I just took my very last High School test EVER!!!!

Ahhh I don't know how well I did on it, but that is not the point. I'm done. Well just about. I have a quiz next block but we don't even have our books to study anything so it will be a joke...and I have to make a poster for Monday's in-house day. Ahh.

So close.

On a more serious note, all year I have thought about leaving High School. This is my last year to be with these people. My last chance to tell them about Christ and show them that they need Him. I am a chicken and I do not share with people nearly as much as I should...The past couple weeks have been really difficult. I know that God has given me opportunities-very specific ones-and I have been struggling because I know it is what I need to do, but it is so hard. I am praying and getting into God's word. Paul says in I Corinthians 2 that even HE was not confident in himself as he shared the gospel. He said he did not come with big words and fancy concepts so that the people's faith would be in God's power and not in his words. This passage encourages me so much to talk with those around me, especially those that I know God has specifically told me to talk to. I have a sort of 'list' and I have a few more to go...I have to plant the seeds; God will choose what to do with them after that. These people may not make decisions to follow Christ right now, but what we talk about will force them to think about life and life after death.

That is the only thing keeping me from staying home. These last few days that I have here will be great opportunities to share with others. I just have to obey God and do it!

so bored!

I'm kind of ticked off...today is my in-house day, so I have to be at school all day long. A few weeks ago, my teacher told us that our "present" for the month of May would be that we got to sleep in and not come into school until 10:05...Well she said no more about it, so I figured she just forgot about it or decided not to do that now. Ahhh. so what did I do today? I came to school at 8:30. Hmmm. only four people are here and my teacher is not here. The sub. talked to her and she said, "Oh make sure you don't count them absent. I told them they could stay home until 10." Ahhh I am so mad at myself! So it is not even 10 yet, and I am done with what is due today, next week, and the next week too. I am about to finish my last assignment too, but I wanted to take a break. If not I'll be even more bored out of my mind. I am very bored, and mad because I could have slept in a little today. But it's okay. There are way more important things...

I'm skipping school!

Right now I am sitting at home at my computer, but it is only like 2:25. I went to my EBCE site this morning and then I even went back to school for 3rd block. After that, I walked out of the building! Ahh-I know I am so dorky for thinking that this is a big deal, but I do. I am so bad!! Hahaha at least I feel like it. I'm skipping school for the first time in my life, and probably the last because I just don't do that. I didn't get to skip on 'Senior Skip Day' because I had my important classes that day, and I had a quiz...I was so mad. I decided today is my senior skip day. It's the end of CATS testing and it really is not a big deal at all to miss one class; but I still did it, and in my head, that makes me a rebel!!! Yay

Madman at the hospital

So I am not exactly sure of all of the details, but there is some type of crazy-man running around the hospital I go to everyday for EBCE. Hospital Administration has sent out flyers to all the departments with a picture of the man and a message saying he is no longer allowed on hospital grounds and is considered dangerous. If you see him, you are to inform Security immediately!Ahh. So I thought, at first, that it was just kind of funny, you know? The guy has this huge beard and the nurses were just sort of laughing about it. It didn't seem like it was a big deal. Maybe it still isn't, but today I heard the nurses talking about how some of the ladies had seen him yeaterday morning on the roof - he was throwong things off the roof!
I have to park on the roof! Ah...so now I'm a little nervous. I try to walk really fast, but you see the problem is that I have to go up 5 huge staircases because the elevators take too long...don't make fun of me...I am EXHAUSTED once I make it to the top. So, it's not like I could outrun anyone in the first place.haha.But it is a complete improbability after that!

And yes, this is written in Purple. I guess I like it today.

Hospitals...hmmmm

My eyes are being opened...

Hospitals are full of germs! This may seem like a "DUH" statement, but they really are. The other day I was at my EBCE site in the Pediatric Department, but there was only one patient, so the nurses had me clean the playroom. I thought to myself, "Ah, how refreshing! This place is making an honest effort to improve sanitary conditions in spite of all the sick kids running around all over the place. That makes me happy." So I was all ready and prepared for an in-depth cleaning experience...then the woman handed me a little container of disinfecting wipes and said, "OK, wipe everything off."
WHAT??? So I wiped off the tables and chairs and then we started on the toys. Oh my gosh. So these toys are not just little round balls with smooth surfaces:easy to clean. These were cool toys, with all kinds of crevices and jagged edges. There is no possible way to get down inside of those crevices! There were germs everywhere and nothing could be done about it! Oh and don't get me started on the toy food. Kids put that stuff all over their mouths...it's food...that's how you play with 'pretend' food. You 'pretend' eat it. The nurse seemed oddly surprised at this fact. Hmmm
I suggested that we soak the toys, at least the food, in Clorox, but that didn't end up happening. They were more concerned about having the toys in the right spots and having all the pieces together...I think the kids will play with anything they have; getting rid of the germs is more important to me, but hey, I am not in charge.
Also, this should be done everyday...I would think that would just be an automatic thing. This is a hospital. Especially because it is a children's department, proper disinfecting should be done every day. The nurses definately do not do this everyday...the lady told me, "I've been waiting on a slow day to clean it all up." Oh man...
My dad said, "Of course they don't care about cleaning it that well, or that often. The more germs they have, the more sick kids there are, which means more business for them." haha I think that is taking it a little too far, but there is definately a problem.

Oh and also, the whole Elevator Courtsey thing has gone even more downhill. It seems like no one understands the concept of patience and manners anymore. Those people waitin to get on the elevator-they are on it before the door is even finished opening up. The people trying to get off don't even have time to think about getting out before a herd of busy hospital-y people trample them. Ahhh it's nuts!
Oh course not everyone does this, but it is unreal to me the amount of people who do.

An Important Lesson About the Beach

So I went to Florida on Spring Break.

The sun shines brighter at the beach.

SPF 8...no good.
I used 30 and I still got a little burnt, so 8 is probably not the smartest choice.
No names mentioned...but wow!
Also, REAPPLYING the lotion (at least twice) is a good idea.
NOT reapplying at all...no good.

I am a fair-skinned individual, I can admit that.
But some people are not so willing to admit that they too are prone to sun burn and things
and therefore, because of this denial, they get very very burnt!! haha.

Moral of the story: Wear alot of sunscreen,
Listen to your friends,
And don't act like it doesn't hurt...I know the truth! :)
We all know the truth!

---Oh yea and just a side note: Jonathan, watch your back!

a list

I'm going to make a list...I saw Jordan do it and now I'm going to. The librarian at school is playing really weird music. It is so random because sometimes she plays classical music, and then sometimes it's this crazy weird stuff...I don't know, it just seems funny to me I guess.

4. I am addicted to Lipton iced green tea with Mango-the little packets you pour into water bottles-they aren't even that good. I just can't get enough of it!!

5. My mom got a new labtop yesterday from her work and that is all I have heard in our house since then...she is really really excited about it. Almost as excited as she gets after she waxes the floor twice in one day! "oooh isn't the floor so pretty?" She asks everyone the same thing as they come into the house.

9. I decided I needed to be tan, but I was all out of tanning cream and I didn't want to go out and buy some more, so I used this lotion that has a little bit of a tint to it. I didn't realize it was really really tinted! haha. It's not that bad at all, but I do have some lines on my hands and my chest/neck is waaaaay whiter than the rest of me! haha. When I use tanning cream, I am always so careful, and it usually looks really good because I have done it so many times, but I was not careful with this lotion because I didn't think it would be dark...plus it says it is for fair skin tones. I keep telling Bryce that I am not a fair skin tone. That means like red heads...and people who are blinding when you look at them directly!! ahhh. I'm in the OB/GYN part of the hospital now. It was amazing! This morning I was able to watch a delivery. I got to be right there when a new life entered into the world for the first time! I loved it-it was amazing. I watched the doctors, nurses, and the techs as they worked together to bring the child into the world. It was a reminder to me of how great God is. He is so big, so perfect, and so into details. He specially designed the entire process to work out just as it should. I am envious of the people who are able to witness these miracles on a daily basis...How wonderful it is!!

Jay Crawford

Okay, so I think I am going to name Jay Crawford this month's middle schooler of the month...but I really don't know anything at all about him! I wanted to go sledding this week, but it just didn't happen. Maybe it will snow again next week. If not, I am ready for ninety degree weather again! I either want it to be so hot I can hardly stand to be outside, or I want to see some accumulating snowfall. Not just flurries, but major snow so that I can build a snow man or go sledding!! Ah I cannot wait!!

give me feedback

Last night it was brought to my attention that i have failed to name a Middle Schooler of the Month for the past couple of months. Just assume so unless otherwise stated...
Ok so my Spanish teacher must know how lost I am in his class....he calls on me ALL the stinking time!!! ahh. He called on me twice already today and the class still has 30 minutes left. Oh man. and everyone laughs because when he calls on me, I just smile and open my eyes real wide,"ummmm....I ...uh....I'm not sure what you said Dr. Furr..." He calls on me on purpose because he knows I have no idea what's going on! ahhh. Then he just repeats the same question with even more speed and mumbling. Oh ok like I got it that time! Yea. No. I still have no clue, just like when you asked me the same question not two seconds ago!!!! ahh.
So this would be understandable if I goofed off in class or didn't pay attention, but that is not the case at all. I sit up the entire time. I listen. I take notes. I don't talk and I try so hard to understand. Everyone else plays around; they talk and don't care, and yet somehow they can answer the questions! What's wrong with that picture?
Alright, I think I'm done rambling about that now...time for some more humiliation! YAY But first I am going to go get a Black Cherry Poweraid Option....Mmmmm They are so great. That will brighten my day.

Why is it acceptable?

For the past month or so I have been really burdened. God is telling me to share my faith. I pray for the opportunities and for the boldness...He comes through and I have the chance to talk with people and yet I do not do what is clearly a command from Jesus Christ! I am being disobedient to my Heavenly Father. When I do not take the opportunities He gives me, I am sinning.
Before leaving for our annual Gatlinburg trip, I knew all of this and I even knew I would get kicked in the butt by Mark Cahill because I knew I was not doing what I should have been...I was almost dreading it. I felt terrible and said to myslef,"ok sarah, get your act together. Start doing what God has told you so that Mark won't make you feel so aweful." Yet, I did not do a thing.
After listening to Mark Cahill and seeing his passionate life-style, I made a decision to change. I want to be different. In our Christian Society, it is "acceptable" not to share your faith. Yea...at church we hear the pastor and Kenneth talk about how important it is, but there is not enough emphasis placed on it. We think, "Man! Mark Cahill is extreme! WE can't be like that. That is just crazy." But you kno what? I think it is wrong not to be like him. He takes every opportunity that God gives him. That is not extreme, that is simple obedience.
I should think to myself every day when I walk into school, "ok, I am going to go to church on Sunday, and I am going to be walking into a building full of people who expect me to do this." But I am not sure that is true. They expect me not to do the BIG sins: no drinking, no sex outside of marriage, no cussing, no stealing. But if I do not share my faith, no one is going to say anything. But in God's eyes, my "small" sin of disobedience is just the same as all the others!
It is time for us to start doing what God has commanded! We need to keep each other accountable. I talked to two people this week and in my mind I'm saying, "Yeah!! that was good." But what about all the other opportunities I missed. The ones I said "no" to?
It's hard, but this is what God has called us to do...and He will bring us closer to Him and bless us if we are faithful and obedient to Him. Plus it gets easier the more you do it. That's in Mark's book :)

Tired

I'm so tired. I am physically tired in general-haha but that is not unusual...but I am also tired in many other ways. I am tired of school and tired of homework. I am tired of people and tired of doing my "routine" day after day after day. It's a humorous topic between me and my friends. We say that we have senioritis really bad! It's funny to joke around about, but it is not funny at all when my sour attitude leaks into other aspects of my life. My family life, my relationship with friends, and most importantly my relationship with my Heavenly Father. I am tired. I am lazy. I am so burdened to share His good news with those around me. I know it is what God wants me to do and not only does He want it, He has commanded it! I know this and I think about it everyday, but I don't do it. I pray for the opportunities and the boldness, but I let my mind go to other things. I get all hyped up about homework or what someone else is doing, when really all that matters is what God is telling me to do. I was going to write a little post about Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwhiches and how great they are, but I feel like this is more important. Our walks with the Father are the only thing in this world that matters. My struggles may be comepletely different from yours, but we all have them. God has called us to do more with our lives than to be in on the latest news or get by with doing the least amount possible...He has called us to live for Him; and He desires only the best!

Elevator Courtesy

When I was little, my dad always told my brother and I that it was "good manners" to stand back from the elevator door when waiting to get on. He always told us to push the button and take a couple steps back; it is polite to wait for those who are getting off the elevator to do so before getting on yourself-and to give them the appropriate amount of space to accomplish this...Well, I have always done this and just assumed that it was common knowledge, but apparently it is not. I did not notice it until I started going to UK Hospital every day for EBCE. People are in such a hurry that they stand right up next to the door and the very second that it begins to open, they are right in there! Sometimes they get ON before the people can even get OFF!!! I think that is just crazy. It is always noteworthy when a person acts politely, so make sure to practice Elevator Courtesy.

Are you not feeling well today?

Ahhh! So you know you look REALLY bad when your spanish teacher leans over and asks you, "Are you not feeling well today?" hahaha okay so I had a manditory 9 hour field trip yesterday-ugh that kept me from doing my Hamlet homework and studying for the test in there, too until really late last night. Plus we had to stand up for hours and hours and hours!!! ahh and I haven't gotten much sleep for the past 2 weeks and I got real stressed the other day, and then I stayed up very late last night...so obviously it has taken a toll on my appearance!!! ahhh I tried to let my hair do its own thing today, too...not helping. I look like a mop. (and I really do this time, Kevin Cox.....haha) But I got a nap in Spanish. 30 minutes. and I was actually zonked out. Usually I just sort of doze off, but this was a real nap! Yay!! I feel better, but there's nothing that can be done about my 'mop-head' until I get home. Oh well no one cares! haha But I do match...well kind of anyways. I almost walked out of the house with grey pants, a white tee-shirt, and a puke green zip up sweater. haha I don't even know what shoes I would have worn!! haha that makes me laugh. Now I have on pink sweat pants and a hoodie and my pink crocs (sorry Amelia:) ) Okay so maybe I need to check with Amelia before I walk out of the house just to make sure I am presentible! haha ok that's the game plan...Nah I think I like looking a little crazy every once in a while. So I go to sign in with my teacher and then I rush off to class. I make it and I am just a few seconds late-no biggy because my teacher is always a little scatter brained for a few minutes. But no...surprise surprise! Today, our school has decided to switch up third and fourth blocks...without informing me...ahh so I have to run to the other side of the building-I'm late. Luckily my teacher doesn't care, but I'm still all hyped up and I'm pretty warm because I was all bundled up in my jacket...then my teacher makes me hand out all the tests that we took last class. As if I know anyone's name!!! haha...but then I notice that this guy sitting near me has one of those suckers: you know those big ones with all the cool flavors that they sell for classes and sports and stuff! Ahhh. I love those things! I found two loose quarters at the very bottom of my disaster of a purse and I bought myself a Cherry Cheesecake sucker. Mmmm Mmmm That was the kind that guy had...he said it was good and it was! Yeah...so now I am having a much better day! Okay here comes the tip of the day: When you are unsure of the exact state of your breath...Keep your mouth shut! Okay, so it is one thing when you are talking to someone or sitting extremely close, but this kid is at least three feet away! That is some powerful bad odor-age coming from one little mouth! ahhh ok so remember, unless you are 100% positive that you smell like the mints in the basket at Porter's Welcome Center, then keep it shut guys!!

Sick Sick Sick

Thanksgiving Dinner was great! Yummy...really. Until Friday Night came that is. My entire family-cousins, aunts, uncles, parents, my brother, even John Wiley because he ate with us at my Grandmother's house and Bryce too because he had some leftovers- we all got sooooo sick. Now Bryce is convinced that it was a virus, but I think it may have been food poisoning. We alllll got it and almost all at the same time! That is so weird. But he does have a point in that food poisoning usually shows its ugly head just a few hours after eating the food...but we got it the next night. But still...I don't know what it was, but it was bad. It had me spilling my guts every thirty minutes Friday night...ahhhhh. It really really sucked. The funniest part of it all, though, was hearing my mom and my aunt on the phone every hour or so trying to decide what it was...'who ate what? Which people are the most sick and what did they eat as opposed to what those who were less sick ate?...Well Granny didn't eat any potatoes or dumplings, Sarah didn't eat the turkey, what did Noah eat again? What about the cheese? Maybe it was the macaroni. No Granny ate that! hmmm.' It was funny...It was the highlight of a pretty terrible couple of days! I think everyone is feeling better now. I guess it would look better for my poor Grandmother if it was a virus and not something in her food!! haha But hey, it all tasted good to me! Hope your Thanksgiving was as eventful as mine was-without the whole food poisoning/virus thing, of course!

Learning in Discipleship

This semester the Senior girls have been in Kenneth's Discipleship Training Class on Sunday Nights. The class has been all aobut Church Doctrine and Theology. Each week Kenneth gave us a huge stack of papers full of information about what we believe, why we believe it, and where exactly in scripture these things can be found. It had been so great; I have to be honest, I have not done a very good job keeping up with all of the papers, but hey! that's why I have Amelia as my friend! haha- anyways, we have all learned so much and this class really got us to start thinking about things. For instance: How long do you think it took God to create the World? Please say "seven days" or really six....but the point is that He did it in seven DAYS, not seven hundred years, or seven thousand years! No, Genesis tells us that He did it in seven days, so He did? Where is the controversy? I know I know...the word used is thought to be trsnslated in different ways. (ambiguous-ooh big word of the day...beat that Amelia! jk!) The word is YOM I think. okay, so some people think that the word may not mean a literal 24-hour period in all the places it is used...hmmmmm okay, but even if that is true then why does it also say in Genesis that there was Morning and there was Evening the first day? That would be just dumb to say that if God didn't really create everything in the literal seven day period. oohhhhh man. I just think this is really important. How can you believe anything else in the BIble if you cannot believe that our God created everything in 7 days?? I realize that there are Christians out there that think it is not a literal 24-hr period and I try not to get too caught up on this, but hey, I find it very important. Another thing we talked about in class is drinking. In scripture it does not come right out and say "DO NOT DRINK" it says not to be filled with wine, but filled with the Holy Spirit....so don't get drunk. Alot of people think it is ok to drink, just don't get drunk. Hmmmmmm. I disagree again. Proverbs 20:1 says, "Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler, he who is led astray by these is not wise." or somthing like that, I don't have a Bible with me I am at school. If God says that wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler....then do you think He wants his children to be drinking them at all? I don't think He does.

We talked about Baptism and the Lord's Supper and different denominations and so much more...I just love this class. I think Kenneth may sweat alot in there though because Amelia loves to ask the tough questions! Haha I think learning about doctrine and why we have it is soo so important. I also think we should know where we stand and be strong and be able to back it up with Scripture.

Middle Schooler of the Month

As seniors this year, we do not know very many of the middle schoolers at Porter...That's just the way things go, but we want to make an effort to get to know as many of these kids as we can becuase they are pretty cool...well some of them haha just kidding-and we only have a limited amount of time left in the student ministry. ok well last month we wrote a post about Alex Pennington so he can be for October. Sooo....now for November's Middle Schooler of the Month: Caitlyn Luttrell.

Caitlyn is one of Sarah's "little sisters" for the Girl to Girl Mentoring program, so we kind of already know her, but that doesn't change the fact that she is too cool!!. She is so awesome. She is very fashionable-her clothes are too cute and she always always has the most exciting accessories to go with them, and great shoes too. Caitlyn is also a strong believer and that is very evident through her actions and attitudes toward everything. She always has something positive to say; we have never heard her say anything negative about anyone or any situation.(how many of us can say that about ourselves?) Also, something really encouraging about Caitlyn is her willingness to share her testimony. She has done this two times, in front of the Student Ministry, that we are aware of, and both times she did a fantastic job just because she was communicating to others what God is doing in her life. Caitlyn is both encouraging and challenging to us in our walks with the Lord. She is only in seventh grade, but my goodness, she is still showing us things that we should be working toward. Thanks, Caitlyn, for being the great girl you are!

Today

Today is a gorgeous day! Books fell, papers flew all over, I landed on all fours...Oh gosh, and I think I just sat there for a second or two, dumbfounded. Wow. But I am one-hundred percent positive the cause of the wipe out was my boots. That's a no brainer, right? haha anyways...today I wore those boots to school again. It is the first time since the incident, so I was torn between wearing them and not. (But you see I just bought these adorable, grey, wool, sparkling, really long pants...I had to wear heels so they wouldn't drag the ground, so of course I had to wear the "danger shoes"....ahh.) I am making a conscious effort to stay upright; I am walking slowly and thinking about each step that I take. I was late to third block but hey, at least I didn't embarrass myself. Well I am at lunch now and so far so good...although I did have a close call about an hour ago. I was coming in from EBCE and I tripped. I wobbled around a little, but luckily there was no butt-floor contact or knee-floor contact, so all is well! Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Pink

I just love the color pink so much! Okay guys, here is the thing: undershirts are a definate requirement for all males ranging from ages eleven to one hundred and two.

For some reason, this has recently become an issue for me. I always take notice of it now...I do not have a solid reasoning for my new obsessive attitude towards the whole concept, but I do have some thoughts on the matter:
#1 Most of the men in my life wear them...and my dad and brother have always always found this a given item of apperal.

#2 The whole "Tough Guy" oooh look at how manly I am with all this chest hair just hanging out all over the place image crisis is just sooo not attractive - at all! yuck

#3 Someone recently informed me of another reason that I hadn't even thought of---Guys get hot and sweaty and sometimes that can ruin a shirt. Why ruin a nice shirt? Ruin a cheap white one instead. This makes total sense and only adds to the obvious conclusion: wear the stink'n undershirt!

#4 It just looks nicer. More complete and finished. Not so sloppy.

#5 Shirts are just too thin. You NEED some extra fabric on so that we do not have to see anything that is just groose (especially older men who are now stuggling with a new bodily change resulting in 'man boobs.')

So I guess that is all...my lunch time is almost over and I hav eto get back to class. Oh one more thing-my friend told me last year(we were discussing this topic) that HER dad didn't need an undershirt because he was hot. oh dear...wrong on so many levels.

Alex Pennington rocks my world!!

Alex Pennington, for those of you who are not fortunate enough to know him, is pretty much one of the coolest seventh grade guys at Porter! So, Alex (favorite person) here is the promised post ALL about you and your amazing charicteristics...cause you rock my world. oh and Dawn's too :) Alex, if you ever feel unimportant, like that would happen! ha ha, just remember your Seventh Grade Girls' Fan Club, your Senior Girls' Fan Club, and....the infamous BOARD over which you most definately preside!

October Third

Happy 18th Birthday to Holly and Bethany...you guys rock my socks off....I hope your day is just fantastic!!!

Another important fact aobut October Third is that it is the very first day that I ever donated blood and helped to save the lives of other people. Yea I know, I am a hero. Really----I got treated sooo well. I sat in a big fluffy chair (ching!) I got to talk to my friends (ching!) I got out of class (ching!) I got a free T-shirt (ching!) I got a free coke (ching!) I got a free granola bar (ching!) and......this is the big one so brace yourself..... I got a free ticket to King's Island (cuh ching!!! cuh ching!!!) Good stuff so give blood at school...help people and get treated like a princess while doing it! And really...who doesn't like to be treated like a princess?

One more thing I want to add....Yeah for Dawn! She finally posted on our blog and wasn't she just amazing? Oh and also, today I was watching "Sabrina the Teenage Witch"-I loved that show so much-anyways...the two aunts: Zelda and Hilda...that is me and Dawn totally!! Zelda has what I like to call judgement; a good solid understanding of situations and their consequences. That one is me. Hilda ( or Dawn ) on the other hand, is way more exciting...she is fun and she is crazy but she, like Dawn at some moments in her life, lacks judgement. Good thing Zelda is there for Hilda and I am there for Dawn. The two personalities go hand in hand and make for an exciting combo! I hope I have re-ignited your desire to watch the show...I wouldn't recommend it, Television has come a long way since it was popular...

Different things that don't go to gethter

Sorry I forgot to do spelle checkon my preveus post i will do that from know on i cant spell crapp ( hahah)

October 3rd is Holly's and Bethany's 18th Birthday so say congradulations or something

Thoughts of Dawn's latly: Kutzoo the Ivy that grows all over the place in Kentucky and the reast of the East Coast was planted here to cover the land destroyed by strip minning but has cense taken over other areas killing growing vegitation.

50% of Christons get a devorce so basicly you have a 50/50 chance to live out the happy american dream or die alone.(Kristy and Natalile think I am crazy becuse I have even thought of this)

One of my favorite words: Fibbertigibbet-an irresponsible flighty person

Things I feel stupid for not getting earlyer: A sink is called a sink becuse the counter is flat then sinks ( the dip or sink in the counter is the sink) then is flat again.

An Arowhead is called an Arowhead because it is the head of an arow(my EBCE site is at the UK Department of Anthropology Archeology rocks most of the time becuse i git to work with the artifacts but if I am doing someing in the backroom by my self for 3 hours strate you start to go insaine)

My Uncle who had take my dog Rose who was my 6th birthday present after she chewed a hole in our carpet never really lost her but Shot her. But you know what? Sitting here looking at all of these books has reminded me of something that we learned at Student Life Camp this summer. (those of us who WENT and did not stay at home all week like uh-chum...Bethany, Holly Amelia...) haha just kidding. But the speaker at camp taught one night about the story of Jesus when he was twelve years old and he stayed behind in Jerusalem. You know the story...we've all heard it many many times but this speaker hit on something I had never even thought about before. The verse that says Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and men.....he said that if Jesus, the God ALmighty in human form, could humble himself enough to find LEARNING important, then we should, too! Jesus GREW in wisdom. He took the time and effort to learn. The speaker asked us, "How many of you would say that you hate school?" I was about to put my hand waaaay up in the air-I figured everyone would-but no one did. I thought about it alot and it really convicted me. Jesus could have totally skipped the learning process, I mean he was God, but he went through it any way. We are to imitate Christ, yes, even in the small things. I should not hate school and I should not hate reading. I want to be like Christ in every aspect of my life. I think so many times we say to ourselves, "Okay, today I have to make sure that I am like Christ. That means I can't do anything that He would not do." But do you know what? Our mindset should be different. Not only should we not do anything that Jesus would not do, but we should also DO everything that he WOULD do! Wow...that is alot different isn't it? So let's try and remember to be in the mindset of Christ at all times. Let's imitate him in all areas of our lives...even the small ones.

Clarification

Sorry... Dawn is Green and Sarah is pink. When we write them together they will be in black. That means that I had to first of all WAKE UP, then get out of the house, then figure out how to get to where I am going, then actually find the entrance to the parking lot and find my contact person. Hmmmm...all before 8:30 AM. I am proud to say that I accomplished every bit of that-and before 8:30...well 8:30 ish at least. And I was frantic on the phone with my mother, driving around downtown trying to decide which way to turn and onto what street to get to Samaritan Hospital. Then I missed the entrance and had to go down all these crazy one-way streets just to miss it a second time...at this point my mom is also frantic and everything is just nuts. But I found it eventually and all is well. -----WOW! Today was awesome...almost the minute I walked through the door they gave me ........................are you prepared for this ?............Scrubs!! Ah. I was soooo excited-I felt so important. Like someone should be saying to me, "Why yes, Dr. Bailey, your next patient is in pre-op. Should we begin preparations for surgery?" Anyways, they let me watch two surgeries today: during the first they removed a sebaceous cyst from a patient's lower cheek, in the other they removed some kind of fatty tissue or something (they used really big words) from a lady's back. It was sooo cool and I was standing right there while they were slicing these people to pieces! I got to talk to alot of really funny people...I guess they were doctors and nurses and -hmmmm-not sure but they were all wearing those awesome scrubs! So, the day started off a frantic-mess (really)...but in the end it was great. I would have to say the highlight of today was definately the scrubs....Yeah for scrubs!

How to Eat Grilled Worms

Okay...so today we almost had the adventure of a lifetime... we had the worms (leftover fish bait from Sunday's fishing trip), we had the grill (hot and ready), we had the condiments (several choices...for variety of course!). We were ready and eager to embark on the daring adventure of eating grilled worms when suddenly we realized that there was a gigantic window right in front of us. Mrs. Bailey (just guess on which one) was staring wide-eyed and frantic, thinking that we are the craziest people in the world..."Noooooo! Sarah!! Dawn!! No. You'll get Hepatitis and die!" -But she's nuts...we've had our Hepatitis shots already! Duh!
Therefore, sadly, our opening entry for this amazing blog has absolutely no personal research behind it whatsoever...so here are our best guesses on ways to eat the hypothetical grilled worm:

10. marinated in italian dressing (cause that's the way my mommy did the yummy chicken we ate for lunch today.)

9. shish-kabob style

8. atop light vanilla ice cream

7. as a pizza topping-the new pepperoni substitute

6. popsicles- grill em, freeze em, and eat em!

5. stir fry-get your veggies and your protein for the day

4. with fruit (so that the healthy nuts out there will eat it... you know who you are.)

3. teriyaki sauce-Konnichiwa!!!!!

2. with classic ketchup and mustard (it's the new hot dog!)

1. in Grilled Worm Casserole a la Bailey!

A Word of Caution: For all of those Dare-Devils who are currently considering trying this for yourselves...let it be known that there is a possibility that during your feast you may accidentally consume our dear friend Mr. Herman the Worm. ( I.....was.....Sittin' on a fence post, chewin' my Bubble Gum.....Smack Smack Smack Smack... playing with my yo-yo....doo-op...dooo-op.................) So be Careful out there guys!

Fun Facts About Dawn and Sarah

To better acquaint ourselves with our readers, we would like to introduce ourselves through a series of fun facts about Dawn and Sarah, as decided by each other.

Dawn:

AKA "The Human Garbage Disposal"

could entertain herself with nothing but a swamp

is obsessed with the ideas of backpacking and paintball

the movie "Gidget" is the story of her life (although she has never seen it)

is infamous for swallowing a blinking lightbulb in Gatlinburg (an incident famous both at Porter and in Alabama)

has a fetish for nerds, cowboys, and nerdy cowboys ("I like big belt buckles, and I cannot lie...")

convinced Sarah to eat a fire ant in New Mexico (ending in Sarah's hand getting stung and swelling up for three weeks)

will not refuse any dare (and we mean ANY)

has a track record of leaving car on and unlocked, often with things on top

is pyro (mwah, hah, hah)

Sarah:

makes random weird noises with her throat

likes to dress fashionably, but not match

CANNOT cry (she has the heart of the Tin Man)

her role models include Lorelai Gilmore and Nanny Fine

loves her hot pink crocks, hot pink Converses, hot pink flip-flops, hot pink sandals, and her hot pink blog!

dislikes unnecessary physical contact (as in, from people of the same sex)

loves going through other people's underwear drawers

likes blood and gore (why do you want to become a nurse, Sarah?...)

has yummy tasting body sparkles

LOVES Cheetos (especially the big puffy ones)

So, in closing, you now know us a little better...so go buy us a Christmas present.
